CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE OF A PC: WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?
In this blog we have frequently handled concepts such as preventive maintenance or even predictive maintenance of a computer. But what is the corrective maintenance of a PC? What does it consist of and how can we put it into practice on our business computers? Is this the best formula to manage your computers?
Many companies practice corrective maintenance, albeit
without realizing it. But, if we analyzed the numbers of all the computer
incidents that they have throughout the year, they would immediately realize
that this type of maintenance is not so profitable.
What is the corrective maintenance of a PC in computing
Corrective maintenance, as its name suggests, consists of
correcting computer problems. It is always a posteriori. We do not maintain the
computer until an incident arises that prevents us from working with it. Then,
when there is no other choice, we apply computer cleaning measures.
It is, in fact, what they do in many SMEs. They only notify
a technician when a virus has entered their computer and they do not know what
to do. But is this really the best and cheapest solution? The truth is that,
many times, ignoring it, they are spending much more money than they think.
Why corrective maintenance is not the best option
Corrective maintenance consists of fixing problems with
computers when they have already broken down.
•Replace parts that have depreciated due to lack of physical
cleanliness, for example fans.
•Change processor or hard drive.
•Reinstall the operating system when you have no choice.
•Completely format the computer when a virus enters.
In other words, do everything necessary to get the computer
up and running again. However, it would be much better not to have to change
parts because they have been cared for and kept clean, not to have to change
the processor or hard drive because we have not burned it, or to have to do so
many cleaning operations because we do not get viruses.
What do you lose when you bet everything on corrective
maintenance?
When you decide that you are going to forget about computing
and when you have a problem they will fix it, you are taking on some risks that
are weighing down your business.
•You lose money. Keeping a computer in good condition is
much cheaper than buying new computers in a short time, or having to constantly
call the technician.
•You waste time. Are you aware of how much time you lose per
day because your computers are slow? It is a key point, but one that goes
unnoticed. Your business does, however.
•You lose motivation. Because you want to do something with
your computer and it won't let you, you make clients wait, your computer
restarts or goes slow, things don't go as they should, you can't work.
•You have trouble working. When a computer does not perform
well, programs are slow and it is not easy to perform a task of any kind from
that computer.
•You put your privacy and that of your customers at risk.
When you decide that you do not want to invest in an antivirus, but you risk
entering the Internet or downloading programs without knowing what they are,
you risk that in a short time your computer will be full of Trojans, spyware
and computer viruses that affect the integrity of your data or your privacy.
The risks you run by betting everything on corrective
maintenance are considerable. At some point you may find yourself with a
difficult problem to solve. Therefore, never forget that maintenance is the key
so you don't have to shell out a lot of money later.
What are the advantages of preventive maintenance?
Preventive maintenance allows you to guarantee a good
performance of your computers, which will affect your productivity and the
overall profit of your business.
You can't work properly when you don't have the tools in
good condition. Imagine a carpenter trying to cut a piece of wood with a
damaged saw, it would take much longer to finish the job and not do it
efficiently. In computing it is exactly the same, although we do not want to
realize it.
When we work with computers connected to the Internet, we must be clear that we run a risk if we do not take the necessary preventive security measures. And the same when we talk about hardware: do not invest thousands of euros in computers for your office, if you do not have adequate mechanisms to keep them in good condition.
